What is an 8809 Form?

Form 8809 is used for a request to postpone a due date of a number of papers. It can be called a fairly universal document since both business owners and individuals can use it to reschedule one or more other information returns. In total, at the moment, it can be used to extend up to twelve forms.

What do I need Form 8809 for?

  • You should use fillable Form 8809 if, for any reason, you do not have time to submit papers on time by the appointed deadline.
  • It can be applied to Forms 1042-S, 1094-C, W-2, W-2G, 8027, 1095, 1097, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, and 5498. The revenue service regularly revise documents, so this list can be changed.With the form, you also can get an additional free extension in case of force majeure.
  • The filing date for documents that are not listed cannot be rescheduled using Form 8809.

How to fill out Form 8809?

There are only seven items in the blank of this form, so filling it out online will not take much time. Please note that the postponement of a due date does not mean postponing a tax payment date.

  • In the first paragraph, you need to provide complete personal information: name, address, contact number, and email. Choose the form of submission: electronic or paper.
  • The fifth paragraph of the PDF document should be completed only by those who request an extra extension. In this case, you also need to specify a reason in point seven.
  • If you fill out the file for the first time, skip lines five and seven and go directly to the sixth point and check one or several forms. After that, you can download Form 8809, send it by email, or print.
