  1. Personal Information: Start by filling out your personal information, including your name, address, and Social Security number on the form.
  2. Select Your Qualification: Next, you need to choose only one qualification that fits you best from the options given:
    • If you are 65 years of age or older, attach Form SSA-1099
    • For 100% disabled veterans, attach the letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
    • If 100% disabled, attach the letter from Social Security Administration or Form SSA-1099.
    • As a surviving spouse aged 60 or older, attach Form SSA-1099.
  3. Income Details: Enter your income details as it appears on Form MO-1040, Line 6, including nontaxable social security benefits, pensions, annuities, rental income, and any veterans payments or public assistance received.
  4. Property Information: For property owners, enter the total amount of property tax paid, excluding special assessments or $1,100, whichever is less. Renters are asked to enter the amount from their Certification of Rent Paid.
  5. Net Household Income: Calculate your net household income by subtracting the specified deductions from your total income. This sum will determine eligibility for the claim.
  6. Tax Credit Calculation: Refer to the chart in the MO-1040 instructions (pages 49-51) to calculate your property tax credit. Enter the calculated figure on Form MO-1040, Line 43.
