What Is Form 8453?

The 8453 form is also known as the US Individual Income Tax Transmittal for an IRS e-file Return. There is a strict deadline for the document to be filed which must be followed. You need to mail this form within 48 hours after IRS accepts the tax return.

The document is helpful for anyone who does not have much time or desire to send the forms in paper format via classic regular mail. There are still limitations: you can’t send W-2, W-2G, and 1099-R forms this way. Yet, you may use it with other forms and the support documents you send attached to each of the forms. You will see the required additions at the beginning of each form.

Once you learn what is a 8453 form, your life will get easier since you will be able to submit forms electronically. It does not mean you can do it with all the blanks required by the IRS. The Department warns in advance that some forms can be filed only on paper. If the IRS accepts the return, send the 8453 documents, sign them, and send it to the department with all the documents you need.

What Do I Need the Tax Form 8453 For?

  • You need to file IRS form 8453 when at least one or several forms that are listed on the document are attached to the e-filed return. The IRS indicates whether you can file the form online or using regular mail in each form. You will find it in the mailing address;
