Essential components of form PIT-B

When filling out the NM form PIT-B, there are several important sections that taxpayers must complete. These include:

  • Allocation: taxpayers are required to list income specifically assigned to New Mexico or another state. The form provides guidance on which types of income should be allocated, such as compensation for services, business income, and property sales.
  • Standard Apportionment: taxpayers who are eligible for standard apportionment, which requires dividing their total income between New Mexico and other states based on ratios such as property, payroll, and sales. The three-factor formula helps in determining what proportion of income should be attributed to New Mexico.
  • Special Industry Apportionment: in some cases, taxpayers may qualify for special industry apportionment rules, which include unique calculations for specific industries. These industries may include transportation, construction, and certain types of manufacturing.
