What is Form I-485 used for?

A Green Card allows an alien to live and work in the United States indefinitely. There are a number of ways to obtain a Green Card, including through family, employment, or as a refugee or asylee.

How to fill out Form I-485?

 The I-485 application to register permanent residence or adjust status consists of three parts:

• In the first part, you need to provide your full legal name, date of birth, place of birth, and current mailing address. You must also provide your alien registration number if you have one.
• In the second, you need to enter data about your current employment status. Please indicate the type of employment: currently employed, unemployed or self-employed. Form I-485 also asks for information about the current job, including his position and duties.
• In the last part, provide information about your next of kin, including your spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21. The form I-485 pdf also asks for information about parents.
