How to Fill In a D1 Form: Driving Licence Application Explained
What Is a D1 Application Form
Who Can Fill In an Application for a Driving Licenсe D1
Drivers who obtained their effective driving licence after January 1st, 1997 are likely to need to apply for D1.
If you were issued a driving licence before January 1st, 1997, and it is still valid, you are most probably already entitled to drive vehicles falling under the D1 category.
In order to be considered a resident in the UK, you need to spend not less than 185 calendar days in the country each usual calendar year. Nationals of other EU/EEA countries cannot apply unless they are legally allowed to remain in the UK.

Where to Send Your D1 Application Form
Remember to enclose the required identity documents with your application. If you are renewing your driving license after a medical condition, you can proactively print out and fill out a medical questionnaire to reduce processing time. See the INF1D official booklet for more information on which additional documents might be required. The source also warns applicants against sending in their passports in case they might need them within four weeks.
